A summary of the Meetings of January 18, 2010, Mackinaw Library, and February 1st meeting at the Pancake Chef, and February 15 meeting at the Library, and March meetings, 1 and 15, also at the Library

Eleven Officers and committee chairmen met January 18, to begin planning for the year of 2010 and followed a full agenda at their board meeting presided over by second term president Linda Gwilt. The treasurer's report was given by Joann Leal, who warns us to be conservative due to the large expense of a new roof last year.
Though the Antique Show isn't until August, communication will begin very soon and vendors will be notified and offered spaces for the show. Letters, contracts, forms, and a brochure will be in various stages of printing already.
The Blood Drives have changed their day and location and the club will sponsor the American Red Cross drives along with the Wawatam Senior Citizens and Lions Club members. The new day is Wednesday and the location is the Lion Dan Russell Building on Cedar St. The new Co-chairmen are Cathy Freebairn and Marianne Murray. Our retiring Chairman Angie Ross is now at home with a new baby daughter, Miss Dana Catherine Ross.
The Membership Chairmen Mim Schneider and Shirley Schneider have begun sending out invitations to guests who have already attended meetings.
Sue Fuss has reserved the trolley for members to ride in during the Memorial Parade on Saturday May 29l
The programs for the year were announced and will be printed in the club newsletter due out soon.
The Rummage Sale will be held in conjunction with the Village's Yard Sale on May 15, so save your goodies for then and you'll be notified as to when to bring them in to the clubhouse. Linda Gwilt and Blanche Sheldon are Co-chairmen.
A letter has already been sent to the Village Council requesting permission for the Strawberry Social to be held on July 4th in Memorial Park.
The Budget Committee will meet on Monday, January 25th at the senior citizens center to present a final report to the membership at the March 1 meeting at the Mackinaw Area Public Library. The budget will be conservative this year. Donations will be less than last year since maintenance expenses were high last year.
The Club book should be completed soon and ready for distribution at that same time. Village President Jeff Hingston will be the guest speaker during the program portion of the meeting.
The club is committed to sending elementary students to the Cheboygan Opera House again this year to attend a professional production for children.
A reminder that the dues are now due and they have been raised by $5.00 to $20.00 a year.
Membership Luncheon meeting at the Pancake Chef on February 1, 2010.
Village President Jeff Hingston was the speaker and gave an interesting run-down of his duties and provided us with many answers to our questions. He is very interested in making sure that there is communication between the village and its residents.
The business meeting followed a delicious lunch of fish, chicken, Mandarin salad, beverage and tip for only $9.00. Strawberry shortcake was the tasty dessert.
Because the number of donors for the ARC blood drives has decreased, there is a concern that the Red Cross may no longer hold drives here. We need a minimum of 25 units for each of the next two drives, which will be held on Wednesdays, March 31st and June 2nd. The drives will be held at the Wawatam Senior Center and volunteers are needed for various duties. Please contact Cathy Freebairn or Marianne Murray to volunteer your services.
The next 2 meetings will be at the library and Joann Wallin will demonstrate the art of cake decorating on March 1.
On April 5th Nancy Campbell will present Library Historical Highlights. Both meetings will begin at 1:00p.m.
Remember to reserve time for the May 3rd annual Past Presidents dinner. Place and time will be announced soon.
A luncheon meeting at the Gildner Gallery will be held on June 7th beginning at 11:30a.m.
Our annual tea will be held on October 4 at the Brigaddon B & B from 12:30 to 2:30p.m., an afternoon meeting instead of our usual evening meeting.
The club books have been completed by the president and are available on payment of dues, which are $20.00. The covers were run and donated by the chamber of Commerce, and the contents were run and donated by the Village. Paper stock was donated to the Village.
The Centennial Cookbook Committee consisting of Marianne Murray, Nancy Campbell, and Ruth Morse, are looking for ideas for the book. Some suggestions include recipes by decade; searches for recipes from the original founders of the club; etc. This will be a very special book celebrating 100 years of the club's incorporation.

Antique Show Chairman Joann Leal reported that she is still looking for a Luncheon Committee, and the school will have the kitchen intact this year.
Co-Chairman Cathy Freebairn reported the Red Cross web site: www.redcrossblood.org is available to make appointments on line, and to get information regarding donating blood. They will need more signs to direct donors to the new location at the Wawatam Senior Center. The next drive is March 31.
Cookbook Co-chairman Marianne Murray reported that cookbooks have been printed in 10-year increments. Discussion centered on a decision to either do reprints of our old one, or wait until the new one comes out in 2013 or 2014, the anniversary year. There will be a historical theme throughout the new book.
First Vice-president Mim Schneider reported researching 3 restaurants proposals. The board approved the proposal presented by 'Neath the Birches for $15.00 including tip. They are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.

Rummage and Bake Sale will be held on May 15. So save your items for a successful sale.
Vicki Teysen will check with the school to determine if Project Close-up will be held yearly, or every other year. She also will check regarding the scholarship.
"Memories of Mackinaw" may be sold by the Woman's Club as a fund-raiser this year.
March 1, - 1pm Membership meeting at the Library
Blood Drive Co-chairman Marianne Murray explained the changes for the next ARC Drive - Date: Wednesday, March 31, Place: Wawatam Senior Center on Cedar Rd., off of W. Central Ave., Time: 11:30a.m., to 5:30p.m.Due to a declining number of donors, the club may lose the blood drives. They have lowered our goal from 25 to 21. It is imperative that we promote the drives and see that there are enough donors.
The board-approved budget was presented by the Budget Committee to the membership for their information.
The Membership Committee has sent out several invitations to prospective members.
First Vice-president and Program Chairman Mim Schneider has announced that the Past Presidents Dinner will be held at 'Neath the Birches, on Monday, May 3rd. The buffet dinner cost is $15.00 including tip.
Rummage/Bake Sale Chairman Linda Gwilt requested members to save items for the sale, and to save plastic bags for it, as well. It will be held on May 15th.
Sunshine chairman Jean Paquet has replenished her supply of cards and has ample postage to cover mailings.
The Centennial Cookbook committee passed around a sample of the cookbook they are working on for the 100-year anniversary. They are also incorporating club history information into the book.
Suggestions for new fund-raiser projects include making hand creams and soaps, and beaded bracelets with ID's. The club is also considering selling "Memories of Mackinaw," All ideas are welcome and will be considered.
Joann Wallin was the speaker, who treated us to the cakes she baked and decorated after showing us how she created the beautiful baked goods with her own tools. We learned how to turn out delicious and attractive cakes for special occasions in our lives.
